Psychology is the scientific study of human experience, behavior and thinking. It's about how we perceive, feel, think and act.
Based on the findings of psychology, behavior can be changed, the quality of life can be improved and difficult situations can be dealt with.
The cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is a form of psychotherapy that is based on the findings of psychology. It assumes that our thoughts, feelings and behaviors are connected and influence each other. The goal of CBT is to recognize and change dysfunctional thoughts and behavior patterns. CBT relies on the active participation of the client and uses various techniques, such as uncovering distortions in thinking or specifically practicing new behaviors. CBT has proven to be an effective therapy method in numerous studies and is therefore often used.
Over time, with the so-called third wave of cognitive behavioral therapy, a number of additional treatment methods have developed that focus on mindfulness and acceptance-based approaches. These include for example the Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), the Dialectical Behavioral therapy (DBT) and the Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT). These approaches rely not only on changing thoughts and behavior, but also on accepting unchanging aspects of one's life. The effectiveness of these new procedures has been scientifically confirmed.
